I've got myself a UD04FAL that I want to use it for archiving some of my family photos and videos on 25gb mdisc.
I did some testing with it and seems to behave decently on 25gb bd-re (verbatim) and 25gb bd-r ritek, but on mdisc it does not seem to be so good.

All discs area readable but scanning them resulted in higher than expected errors. Is this normal for this type of unit ? Would a new firmware help with better burning strategies ?

I've been so tempted lately to try and code a firmware tool for bluray drives, in this case a pioneer, my goal yesterday with no background was to dump my already uhd-friendly firmware (BDR-211), just to have some goal. At the moment i have managed to dump it, but i have some issues disassembling it, i wonder if its a mips core or a arm core used in the SAT8801 / RS8801 platform, from what i've read pioneer used mostly arm, but since my drive is a asus rebaged pioneer, you can never be sure, and thats probably why i had to probe so damn much to find the correct adress to read the firmware from too. well, anyway, any suggestion would be appreciated, oh btw, i use IDA :)

I was luckily able to get my hands on two older Asus BW-16D1H-U PRO modelswith the inbuilt OEM Drive PIONEER BDR-212T.

If I understand correctly, these are not UHD capable as is, however is it possible to crossflash them to an UHD-friendly firmware?
