Hi. Iam new on this board!
I will write on english and please if u answer me, do it on engleish (btw iam from Croatia)
I have Liteon LDW-451S DVD-RW and i have problem that i cant burn dvd media on 4x (it couse errors), only on 2x.
Iam frustrated, i pay big money and i cant burn on 4x
I dont know what to to
I see here that some of you have on your signs LDW-451S@something but i cant understand your language good
So iam intrasted can i cloack my DVD-rw on something else or fix that shit so i can burn dvds on 4x.
I have winxp proffesional (sp pack1)
512 ddr
ati radeon 9000pro
80gb maxtor
amd athlon xp @2500
i have firmware gsb7 (something like that)

I do not know english very well but the one thing I can write is that I also have got Liteon LDW-451S and I upgradet it to 851 with firmware from kowanski (one of users on this forum)

maybe your firmware doesn't recognize properly your dvd disks and that is the problem.
try apply this firmware and you will get 851, but first make backup your eprom and firmware. all needed software to do it you can find here: www.liteon401s.prv.pl (kowanski's soft)

and don't forget, that is all your risk and is no warrranty it will help you!
but I did it and it goes great!

Chlopaki nie smiejcie sie z mojego anglika, niemiecki znam troche lepiej. Jak ktos umie cos lepiej tu sklecic to piszcie.

Check DMA mode in device manager (use options: dma if accessible).
Which dvd-rom compact disc you use to burning? Which producer?

Yes, LDW-851 is 8x, but DVD+R only, DVD-R is 4x.

There is another possibility: with another firmware you can get 812, which is 8x on both formats, but, in my opinion, Liteon 451@851 with GS0H offers best recording quality.

and, to be sure your burner is ok, you should buy verbatim x4 and try to write it with 4x, if it could be done I think you can upgrade it or give to check it on service

I'd say that most of your problems will go away when you start to use some decent media like TDK or Verbatim and see if the problems go away (yes i know that those brands are expensive but just give it a try to see if that helps). If you can find X-Disc dvd-r x4 than try those too (should be much cheaper than TDK but from my own experience they are very good -- i've burnt like 100 of them and even oldest one don't cause problems in both standalones and computer dvd-roms)
Did you check what firmware version your LiteOn has? Check on their webpage to see if there is newer one. Firmwares can also be downloaded from www.cdrinfo.pl (only in Polish) or from www.cdfreaks.com. There are also other webpages that offer firmware upgrades that are 'region free' (sometimes reffered as RPC-1).
I would also suggest looking at www.doom9.org and especially forum.doom9.org. You might even find someone from Croatia there
