...Anyway, I emailed samsung with this info: SC-148FE 6RBN108432K F/W=148PS06 JANUARY 2000 And got this (very) quick reply: Thank you for your e-mail and details. Unfortunately your drive has a firmware chip which cannot be upgraded with software. These so called "PROM" can only be upgraded using special equipment at a service center. and therefore unfortunately the firmware upgrade is not possible with your drive. Kind regards, Samsung OMS Service Team ...
