Need assistance flashing slim PATA CD drive to slave
I have two older Toshiba notebooks running Win98 that I'd like to upgrade to a DVD-RW or DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive.
It seems both machines require the optical drive set as SLAVE. I remember years ago using a utility on CDFREAKS to change the master/slave assignment in the firmware on a Dell slim optical drive. Can someone recommend a slim PATA/IDE drive that can be easily changed to SLAVE via firmware or third part tool? Thanks in advance. |
After some hunting, it appears my Sony DW-D56A is a rebadged LiteOn SOSW-852S.
That said, I'm not seeing a source for a binary firmware for the drive, either Sony or LiteOn. It seems the DOS version of MTK Flash can assign the drive as a slave device, but I'm not sure how to proceed. Thank you |
It might be hard, most of users from that era have moved on and are no longer here, only few of passionate are left as you can see. Unfortunately most tools are gone from servers you can try find something in history by looking specific model for this notebook.

If I remember correctly, LiteOn slim drives master/slave mode is configured in LtnFlash, but I need to check it myself to be sure.
