I bought a Buffalo BRXL-PUS6U3-BK/N and the ASUS SBW-06D2X-U, both LG BU40N.

Already had a BP50NB40 from 2020 crossflashed to BU40N. Bought the ASUS and Buffalo as spares.

It is only the Asus BW-16D1 drives that people have reporter getting a Pioneer inside as of late 2025 and early 2026 but I think it is old stock.

I suspect the reason for this is that slim drives are more popular because so many people now use laptops or small desktop PCs.
Even more rare to get a Pioner inside a Verbatim 43888 drive, by now it is probably LG drives only with that Verbatim brand.

Anyway, the only way to know for sure is to runt MakeMKV and check, you can not tell from packaging, serial numbers etc.

Pioneer will no longer ship drives from September 2024.
All Verbatim offers I know of already offer the LG BH40 drive.
I've never found any details on the packaging that would allow me to identify the version.
