Crossflash BDR-S12XLB to UHD friendly version

Ilość załączników: 1
Hi. Can anyone of the experts here provide me a firmware (incl. kernel) to crossflash my BDR S12XLB to an S12 UHD friendly variant?

MakeMKV Info:
Drive Information
OS device name: I:
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-S12
Revision: 1.01
Serial number: AKDL007062WL
Firmware date: 2020-07-21
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8F00
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-212T
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.01/ID45
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

I am still confused by this drive, that I bought from China. I doesn't have the typical Pioneer casing and on the metal there is still some kind of transparent film, that can be removed. Another funny thing is, that the sticker on the case show S/N: AKDL007420WL, whereas MakeMKV shows S/N AKDL007062WL....

Usually jadburner will help people in this forum regarding crossflashing.

Thank you for the link. Actually, I intentionally bought this drive. Internally, it looks like a Pioneer drive (boards: ONP8576-A, ONP8534-A, Motor OXM8048-B). Right now, it's burning an older VERBAT-IMk 100GB disc. Both layer breaks passed successfully. When the burning process is finished, I will scan the disc and inspect the error rates.

@Coopervid. Do you have a list of drives that are based on the RS8F00 platform?

blackice 16.07.2025 19:26

@jadburner. Thank you! Will try reflashing it when the current burn process is finished

All 212s and S12s are RSF800 or 01. Additionally the IOData S16PX which is sold as a 209 but is a 212 and also some ASUS drives.

Plus the Vinpower 212V.

The burn is decent. Not a masterpiece, as I had far better ones with VERBAT-IMk 100GB discs.

The solution to this problem is very simple and has been known for a long time.

Since at least 2007, Chinese companies have been inserting old, used Pioneer DVD and Blu-ray drives into OEM Chinese QSI cases for the Pioneer DVR-118/218/119/219 and selling them as new. The issue concerned the DVR-106/107/108/109/112/116/117/216/217, and there may have been others. For Blu-ray, there were the BDR-206/207/209/212 and the BD-ROM BDC-207.
The same issue arose with the LiteOn IHAS B, where they were installed in newer IHAS CU/DU/EU/FU enclosures, as well as the BuRay LiteOn iHBS 112/212 and Optriac BD-5300S drives.

I remember when I received a newly purchased iHBS212 in China for review. It wouldn't burn BDR DL correctly and had 30,000 CD/DVD/BD writes on the odometer.

I'm attaching photos of a Pioneer DVR-116 from this edition, including the fake box just look at it to see what's going on.

Thank you for the clarification. At least in my case, I knew/suspected what I was doing/buying. The drive was sold as used. Btw, you are writing of an odometer that shows the number of writes. Does it only exist for LiteOn drives, or also for Pioneer or LG drives?
