The conclusion so far, with all media being burned at its rated speed, is that the BDR-S09XLT does a poorer job on all the media I tried compared to its BDR-207M/208M predecessors. Some of the results show quite significant burn differences, with BDR-S09XLT doing a much poorer job than its BDR-208M predecessor (note that the BDR-208EBK burns were actually done with its original factory shipped 1.10 firmware, so firmware maturity is not an excuse).

While not disastrous, these in my view are still very disappointing results, which I haven't seen in relation to other recent previous Pioneer burners (say 207M and 208M) when they were released.

I really hope that Pioneer will be able to improve burn quality with a future firmware release. Until such time I think I will take the BDR-S09XLT out of my machine and bring back the good old BDR-207M to keep company to my BDR-208M, BH16NS40 and PX-LB950SA drives.
