I just ordered one used SE-506BB unit (yes, I read all the warnings but I was willing to have a portable drive mostly for reading). If it will turn out to be fully functional I shall produce some burns using it. I plan though to cheat a little bit and power it using double USB cable, we will see what happens ;-)

It *should* be fine for reading and scanning, at the very least. Powering it with a USB Y cable is an interesting experiment. Please keep us posted.
