Welcome to the forums, JuliusC ! It sounds like you don't already own a Pioneer Blu-ray drive? If not, you'll need to be careful when you buy one, since some of the recent Pioneer drives with the latest firmware cannot currently be crossflashed to a UHD-friendly drive.

I understand that the latest firmwares make it impossible to crossflash and to become UHD friendly, so I'm looking for used or older models. From my understanding, 209EBK, S09XLT, 2209, 211EBK, 211M, 212EBK, 2212, 212M, S12XLT would be crossflashable to support UHD, but DBK variants not advised.
Would all 09 series (except DBK) work, or is there a manufacturing date to look at?
Are 08 series too old or could be covered?
