Thank you for the clarification. At least in my case, I knew/suspected what I was doing/buying. The drive was sold as used. Btw, you are writing of an odometer that shows the number of writes. Does it only exist for LiteOn drives, or also for Pioneer or LG drives?

In Pioneer drives, the device's read/write times for CD/DVD/BD tracks are stored in the ROM. Unfortunately, Pioneer service tools/software are required to read these values.
LG's design is so simple that the only thing you can do is count burned CD/DVD/BD media.
