The firmware used is that for the A09 version 1.05. This contains the small kernal necessary to perform the switch. So, by using initial_D's DVRupdate utility it is possible to "regress" the 109 to an earlier version of the firmware if yours already has v1.17 inside whilst at the same time putting the kernal in for the a09. If you haven't upgraded your 109 to v1.17 of the firmware then the kernel simply "converts" the drive from a 109 to an A09. The final step is just upgrading the 109 to version 1.17 firmware using the A09 version.
Mine works flawlesly and now rips much faster than before. Windows still reports it as a 109 and to all intents and purposes it appears the same. Just that rip-locking is now turned off
