Ritek Archival Grade 4x BD-R

I recently found this media and I am wondering if this would be better than Verbatim M-Disc media. I am talking about the "Ritek Archival Grade 4x BD-R" media and not DL discs.

These are good discs, but M-DISC is in a higher class.

Ah, these Ritek Archival seem to be super high quality BD-R discs but they are not M-Discs. This is why I am wondering if the M-discs are better or equal in terms of quality. The main reason for selecting Verbatim is the M-disc brand and it is easy to find places where they sell the disc. Other brands have become really hard to find, often it involves shipping, tax etc. from Ebay.

Also would this Ritek Archival be the best option for long-life archival DVD disc ? The reason is there are almost no DVD M-Discs left that I can find and I can not get it shipped here to where I am at. There are some Kodak Gold DVD-R out there but that is old stock, not something that is in production.

I did find that Verbatim did have DVD-R DL as Mdisc but not in production any more. Options for high quality archival media are slim now :-(

I found this about the Ritek Archival disc:

The Ritek BD-R DL 50GB 4X Archival Grade Disc is a high-quality Blu-ray disc certified by ADTC (Archival Disc Test Center) in Japan, bases on ISO/IEC 16963 standard. The standard specifies an accelerated aging test method for estimating the lifetime of the retrievability of information stored on recordable or rewritable optical disks.

ADTC concludes that estimated lifetime is up to 115 years.

With a maximum write speed of 4x, this disc is perfect for those looking for a reliable and scratch-resistant option for their storage needs.

Hmm, that JVC-version seem to scan wildly different than the Ritek-version ?

Is there an actual difference I wonder, or is it perhaps related to the drive used to scan them ?
Or simply that the production quality varies extremely from one spindle to the next ?

M-DISC DVDs are manufactured by Ritek and are widely available at Alli Express stores.
As for Ritek Archival Grade BD-R discs, as noted above, these discs are of lower quality than M-DISC discs. Incidentally, Ritek also produces 25 GB M-DISC BD-R discs, which are better, but also more expensive, than regular Archival Grade discs.
Among DVDs, there are also Ritek Archival Grade 4.7 GB discs, which are also very durable, with an estimated lifespan of up to 170 years and can be safely used for long-term archiving. However, M-DISC discs are even more durable, so one Ritek M-DISC DVD costs the same as 10 Archival Grade DVDs. Archival Grade discs are very good, but M-DISCs offer even greater durability.

Thanks. That clears it up for me. I thought Ritek Archival Grade was an alternative but now I know it is not because M-Disc has higher quality.

By the way, I've never seen dual-layer M-DISC DVDs. Perhaps they were double-sided discs, not dual-layer. Archival-quality dual-layer DVDs don't exist, but there are very high-quality Verbatim 43754 discs (DVD+R DL 8x DataLifePlus, 50 pcs.). These discs are very high quality and can be safely stored for a long time. Of course, they're not M-DISCs, and they won't last for centuries, but they are ideal for lifelong storage.

Yes, I thought that was odd. It could be a mistake on my part. But I would never use DL discs for DVD, BluRay etc. My main interest is in archival storage and as stated M-Disc is best for this.

It seems Ritek DVD M-discs from Ali Express is the best option for the DVDs. I did buy some Kodak Gold CDs in case I need that and I will probably buy some more when I find it. Yes, CD's can not store a lot of information but I want to have some in stock anyway for my archival needs. There are Milleniata DVDs and BD-R M-Disc but that is old stock and I can only find it in America, they don't ship to Europe and it is not in production any more.

Verbatim do have BD-R M-disc and they seem to be in production and easy to find in most part of the world. The brand is owned by CMC Magnetics in Taiwan, same as Ritek. Lets just hope they will continue producing optical media in the future even if the price goes up.

Anyway now I know that Ritech Archival grade is not as good as M-disc and that is what I wanted to know, that is why I posted in this thread.
