Pioneer X12JBK, XD05 and BDE-PR1EP Crossflash problems

Hello everyone. I started getting into optical disc drives and discs this year, and I learned about this forum through the English reviews of the 211 and 212 series. Thank you all for your dedication.

Now I own several drives: the Pioneer X12JBK, XD05 and BDE-PR1EP, all purchased from the second-hand market in Japan.


I have encountered some problems during my exploration and would like to ask for your help.I have bought some UHD discs. UHD playback on computers is very poorly optimized right now, and my drives do not support UHD natively, so I want to perform crossflashing.

First question: I downloaded EXE firmware update packages from Pioneer's official Japanese website and extracted them using Resource Hacker. Pioneer does not encrypt the firmware. Some update packages contain both Kernel and Firmware, while others only include Firmware.
I wonder if I failed to extract the full contents? After all, the official EXE installers can complete the update process normally.


Second question: I tried to flash the firmware extracted from the official website with DVRTool, and I also modified the firmware via WinHex to match the target model name and identifier, but the flashing failed. I would like to ask: does Pioneer have any other verification mechanisms besides the device ID?


Third question: For this EPSON-customized BDE-PR1EP drive, I found another firmware from the same product line -BDE-PR1EP2, which has an ID of 75, while the BDE-PR1EP has an ID of 76.
This drive does not support BD-RE or BDXL formats, and I ran into the same failure when attempting crossflashing.It appears that its main controller chip is identical to the one in the S11J-X. Is there any chance it can be crossflashed to work as a 211M?
