I also failed to update despite tests on several computer hardware with Windows XP and different ATA \ IDE drivers and different ATA \ IDE controllers. Although the drive worked properly in the system, the RICON flasher either does not detect the drive or does not install firmware correctly or various other errors.
You probably need older ATA controllers from 2003 ~~ 2004 ....

Technically, they look identical, hardware identical Ricoh M72 but have different bootcode and different firmware designations.

RIC. files should be uploaded by Ricoh Flesher.
I have included two that I have but work on W98 / W2000 / W XP but on newer computers I couldn't update either errors or I can't see the drive.
RFlash you can also make a copy of the firmware.
