I wrote to Billycar11 about this, and for doing a crossflash on a drive with factory firmware newer than 12/2022 he asked for I decided that's way too much, and I'd rather wait until the author of BDRflash does something about it.

this is because you are a reseller selling the drives im sure you would use my flasher many times on 12/22+ drives

others have already attempted to resell my flasher for 12/22+

The version of BDRFlash that we have does not currently support crossflashing drives with the post-November 2022 firmware. You may wish to check with Billy Carr to see if he can help you.

Btw because my S08 is already a half-dead drive (red laser down; tray is hard to eject), I'm thinking of sourcing another Pioneer drive from the local second-hand market, but I'm having the following doubt:
  1. Does the current BDRFlash support crossflashing a drive that has been updated to an "unsafe" version (i.e. from Dec 2022 or later) of firmware? (I'm presuming that Dec 2022 was when the "downgrade lock" was introduced.) As the drive I just flashed presumably had a "safe" one. (I resisted the lure to update it when I saw the post-Dec 2022 1.51 updater.)
  2. Should I avoid crossflashing a drive with an "unsafe" firmware for any reason(s)? (For example, only the 1.04 and 1.05 updaters for the "12th gen" models come with a kernel. If I got a 12th gen that isn't already "UHD-ready" (but "capable"), should I procure a suitable 1.02 kernel+firmware from someone? As the BDR-211UBK 1.53 firmware I got from jadburner is a "safe" one as per my knowledge.)

Just successfully crossflashed my "rev. 1" BDR-S08XLT to BDR-211UBK and ripping a UHD BD for the first time. Thank you jadburner for your generous help! Also shout out to blackened2687 (and all the people who helped) for the great work.

I actually did it through a Windows KVM on Linux by the means of "SCSI passthrough" (virtio-scsi + scsi-generic), so although your mileage could vary (as it involves quite a few "components" that might occasionally break in one sense or another, such as the respective drivers in the Linux kernel, qemu and the virtio-scsi Windows driver), at the very least it could work. (Now I'm wondering if it would even work through wine...given that it apparently works well for ImgBurn I suppose there's at least some support for SPTI...?)

I was lucky enough to come across 3 kinds of pioneer drives within the last couple months and much like others, have been having a hard time finding instructions or the appropriate firmware to flash the pioneer drives to rip 4k uhd in make mkv or if any of these 3 are already ready to go. Hello @Coopervid,

Don't worry, I didn't pay @billycar11 (and that's a good thing, because I'm pretty broke right now!). I did, however, pay for my MakeMKV license.

In fact, jabdburner provided me with the flashing software, the appropriate firmware file, and the instructions (it's pretty straightforward).
Everything went as planned, the only thing I couldn't do was back up the old firmware

Now I can play 4K UHD movies on my Pioneer player. A mega big thank you to @jadburner and you!

NB: I do have one question, though ... Is there an RPC-1 version of the BDR-211UBK firmware?

You didn't even email me I had a special free offer for you and a free makemkv code

Had and extra code and just wanted to give it away but everyone told you don't talk to me so whatever

Hello,

First of all, thank you for welcoming me to this forum.
I'm French, and unfortunately I do not speak Polish. I will therefore write this message in English, and I hope that this is okay for you.

I have a Pioneer BDR-209MBK drive that I would like to unlock so that it can play 4K UHD videos.

If I understand correctly, it seems possible to flash it with the firmware from a BDR-211, but I have not been able to find detailed instructions and the necessary files to do it. In addition, I would like to backup the current firmware before flashing the new one.

Could someone send me a detailed tutorial with the necessary files?

Thank you.

BDR-209 to a BDR 211

Hello to all Users and Helpers in this Forum! :)

I’m glad to find professionals. I’m new in flashing Rom-Drives.

My question:
I have a Pioneer BDR-209EBK Drives from 2016.

Laufwerksinformation
Produzent: PIONEER
Produkt: BD-RW BDR-209M
Revision: 1.34

Firmware-Datum: 2016-04-25
Markierungen der Bus-Verschlüsselung: 13
Highest AACS version: 81

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8600
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-209
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.34/ID60
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

I would like to crossflash it to the BDR-211 Drive for UHD Support.

What Firmware should I download from the Forums Downloadpage?

Is it the Pioneer is it the BDR-211EBK / UBK or the S11J-X Firmware?

Extracting the exe with 7 zip?

Cossflashing with BDRFlash Tool? …But I cannot find the Tool anywhere.

I hope you can understand me, my english is not so good, and sorry …my Polish is even worse, if non-existent.

Thank you for your support in advance. Best wishes CDOldie

No, that won't work. The BDW-PR1EPDVPP100 is a BD-ROM drive based on the BDR-209. There is no Pioneer equivalent.

The user reports this:

The reason I mentioned the BDW-PR1EPDVPP100: apparently it is used to write (normal) Blu ray's in certain rigs, but the reading capability of the drive for the (normal) blu rays would be turned off according to google searches?
On the other hand, when I check the settings of the drive for blu rays then it says R/W "switched on"...? So I would expect it to read or see blu rays but it never does.

I have read that this drive is used in an Epson rig to only WRITE BDs but cannot READ BDs. Now you say this is a read-only drive which makes no sense to me. Please check again.

Edit: Not possible. Thanks!

Sorry. His newest info shows its a BD-ROM. I was mislead.

I have in my possession a BDR-209-EBK firmware 1.51 in a box 5.25 usb3 extern not mount in a PC. Can I do this crossflash in extern or not ?

Is it exact that the crossflash is to the BDR-211-XXX v1.53 to read UHD discs ?
Where can I find the good 211-v1.53 ?

Do you know if it exist a tuto or a explanation to do this crossflash ?

It take a long time ago that I haven't do this 10 years, the way is always to do is to write in the bios or to use another method like a software freeware?

Sorry for all this questions but I don't want to crash it.
Thanks for help

Welcome to the forums, Tektek. The BDR-209EBK with firmware 1.51 should be fine to crossflash to a BDR-211EBK.

Hi every one,
First of all thanks for the anwser for BDR-209EBK, I receive it today

For this other model BDR-212-EBK, I don't understand the conditions to be sure to obtain a good a UHD friendly after flashing.

What the entires conditions region / firmware / date of firmware ?
How to know the region if it's important for this BDR-212EBK ?

Thank you

If the date of the firmware on your BDR-212EBK is before December 2022, it can be crossflashed to a drive that supports UHD.

Well, I got another Pioneer BDR Devices that pre-flash to BDR-S12JX with firmware 1.01 (Date 2020-07-21)
Which means this one is already UHD friendly?
Any methods to check device original name?

A BDR-S12J-X with firmware before December 2022 can be used with MakeMKV to rip UHD discs. Your drive meets both criteria, so you should be good to go.

Probably, but only if the firmware was not updated. You should probably check the drive's firmware date before you buy it.

Hello, everyone
I'm new, I had read a few posts, I knew my BDRS09XLT with firmware 1.55 (I updated two years ago) can not cross flashed.
I'm about to have a BDR-212EBK from second-hand local shop. I saw these devices were manufactured on Sep 2020.
If the firmware was not updated , can I do the flash on this device to become UHD Friendly ?
