I very recently picked up one of the medical drives, this one apparently from a Siemens Acuson S2000 ultrasound, for what I think is a pretty fair price (serial redacted).




Even came with an IDE-USB bridge (Cypress chipset as usual) and a strange DB9-to-Molex power connector, which I'm assuming is used internally in the ultrasound machine.




Front is as plain as they come, no markings at all, and even eject button is tiny. (Put in enclosure as it's too rare to just use naked, haha.)



Came with firmware G.1A (attached w/kernel, see bottom of post--dumped using DVRtool 1.02) which I haven't seen attested to anywhere (I'm assuming it's one right before H.0P).

So far only have made one test burn, with mediocre results (though this media has mainly been mediocre-to-ok for me, will be posting more about it later/elsewhere).

...which is something I very rarely/don't think I've ever seen, except when there was a problem with the disc scan itself (and I've never had such a problem with this drive). Will try to run it through other ones (which I usually do, was in a rush this time) but would be surprised if it changed much.

Also did not do so well at secure cd ripping (fast, actually quite fast, but a few problem sectors that ripped fine with other drives) but apparently this is typical of drives with an NEC chipset :/

Any case, will try to do some more testing soon. I'm curious about trying 1.0Q, H.0P, and possibly the Pioneer FWs with this drive (was actually wondering why this is usually done with 216, rather than 117 like in the above screenshot) though the ones specific to the DV-W5000 don't actually seem to be up anywhere, not even here, unless I'm missing something...

This G.1A firmware is for Siemens devices.
H.0P firmware is for Epson equipment.

These models for recorders may not work properly on which computer hardware or programs.
You can see that there is a problem with communication and data transfer when saving.
Maybe it doesn't work properly via USB housing?
And what about the reading on this drive connection?

Oh? But haven't you been testing them in this thread? I know most of the tests are for the PP100 models but not all of them, right?

Reading appears to be OK. Every single IDE-USB bridge I have come across (including the one in the enclosure, and the one that came with the drive) is the same Cypress AT2 model. They have not had issues with reading. But, I haven't really tried burning (just the one that I've already posted) or quality scans with it yet. Usually I use Oxford 912 IDE-FireWire bridges, but enclosures don't usually come with these. More testing necessary to figure out if these Cypress ones have issues--unless one of you already knows...? I brought a computer with a native IDE controller out of storage recently, as well as an extra Oxford firewire bridge, so I'll be trying those as well. Will report back.

I mainly tested Epson PP 100 models which do not work properly and perfectly on every computer hardware.

Check on another program like Opti Drive Control test recording - the program has problems with test recording on NEC \ Renesas chipsets, hence this problem with write speed.
