209 series 1.54 should be from 2020, thus it should work. Just don't update to 1.55. And don't use 211 series 1.54!

Did you select both firmware and kernel files together, so both show up under "Select file(s)" then? If just one file is shown there, it won't work. What actually happens? Do you get some error...

Which firmware is your 209M currently on? Must be 1.54 or below. 1.55 contains the downgrade/crossflash protections already. Did you try the firmware and kernel files that jadburner gave you?

Carefull with firmwares 1.54 for 211 series drives, and 1.55 for 209 series drives! They come with the crossflash and downgrade protections already!
