I have the following 3 pioneer models (as listed on serial label) with the indicated stock pioneer firmware:

1) BDR-212V, Rev 1.01, Firmware date 2021-07-20

2) BDR-212DBK, Rev 1.02, Firmware date 2022-03-16

3) BDR-213ULBK, Rev 1.02, Firmware date 2022-04-06

Is it possible to receive a copy of BDRFlash to do the following crossflashes:

BDR-212V and BDR-212DBK --> BDR-S12UHT v1.02 (firmware BDR-S12JBK_UHT_FW102EU.exe)

BDR-213ULBK --> BDR-S13U-X v1.03 (firmware BDR-S13JX_UX_EX_CX_FW103EU.exe)

From what I understand:

1) In all cases, the new model/firmware being crossflashed to:

a) is compatible with the original old model/firmware.

b) will enable BDXL writing and UHD ripping on the drive (using the appropriate software).

c) is dated <= Nov 30, 2022 and thus not among the Pioneer firmwares that prevent crossflashing/downgrading and disable libredrive.

2) I won't be stuck with my choice of crossflashed firmware: if, for some reason I'm unhappy with the results, I can use BDRFlash again to crossflash to a different (compatible) firmware, provided I have the firmware (and kernel) files.

Is this all correct? By all means, please advise if a different model/firmware version would be a better choice for any of the models, especially if I am choosing too high of firmware versions.

Also, I would be doing the crossflashing over a sata to usb y-connector (Vantec CB-ST00U3). Please let me know if this could be problematic and if another connector (or direct sata to pc motherboard) is advisable.

Did you select both firmware and kernel files together, so both show up under "Select file(s)" then? If just one file is shown there, it won't work. What actually happens? Do you get some error message?

Which firmware is your 209M currently on? Must be 1.54 or below. 1.55 contains the downgrade/crossflash protections already. Did you try the firmware and kernel files that jadburner gave you?

That crossflash should work. You must be using incorrect files or not checking the "Force flash" box.

just so you know the 209d/m doesn't seem to wanna take the BDR-S11J-X firmware

11T_BDR-S11JX_FW153EU.exe is for hardware SAT 8800.

11TM_BDR-S11JX_FW153EU.exe is for SAT 8801.

If your 209D has hardware SAT 8600, use the SAT 8800 firmware. If your 209D is SAT 8601, use the SAT 8801 firmware.

Yes, if you're careful you can use something like 7-Zip to extract the firmware, and kernel if present, from a Pioneer flasher (.exe). They are normally in the Updater's BINARY folder. 132 is the firmware and 131 (if present) is the kernel.

Be careful not to extract and flash / crossflash your drive to any Pioneer firmware dated December 2022 or later. Doing so will remove UHD capability from the drive and prevent further crossflashing.

can I extract the firmware from the downloaded exe firmware update file?

When crossflashing Pioneer drives, we provide you with the kernel and firmware. You should use both. Many Pioneer firmware .exe files actually contain both kernels and firmware.

I used to crossflash cdrw and dvdrw drives back in the day and all you had to do is flash the firmware

I wish we could help, but the 1.05 firmware on your drive prevents crossflashing or downgrading. So you will have to wait until there is a workaround for that issue. Sorry.

What confused me a little was, that the check marks for BD-R XL and BD-RE XL were already set.

Nevertheless I tried to start the flashing process and it stopped with the message "Drive and firmware hardware types don't match."

I'm not sure which type applies to this drive, because the sticker says BDR, but MakeMKV reads BDC.

Welcome to the forums, dev. Unfortunately, your drive is a BDC-UD03 combo drive, not a BDR-UD03. BDRFlash only supports crossflashing to BDR drives. You will need to work with the MakeMKV developers to see if they can enable support for it.
