All known issues should be fixed in 0.10.8 which is now out (upgrade, downgrade, and cross flash)

Dump is about 2x as large (16MB) as I found more data hiding.
Backups are unchanged.

Overall this should be a much more stable release (famous last words). Better error messages, error handling, pre-checks, etc.

Ill wake up to "its amazing!" or "it sucks" I am sure Send bugs if you find them.


Fully tested on my UD04 but as always no promises and proceed with caution.

i used the "Shift option on the keyboard" to copy the 2 files into your flash utility, but it cant copy 2 files... only 1 file can be copied...

On 0.10.8 I could go from S12J-X 1.03 to 212U on 1.05 easily. But when trying to go from the 212U 1.05 onto 212M 1.05 in the same session, i get this error.

pre-flash backup failed; aborting flash (use --force to proceed without a backup): the drive refuses the device base 0x0

If I close the program and re-open it to try again, i get this error.

installed firmware backup is required to recover the receiver control key; refusing update entry

It would repeat the same error on 2 other tries to flash. With 0.10.5 I could flash it back to S12J-X on 1.01.

Matt, 8591 is a bluray combo and could never be flashed to UHD with BDRFlash. Be careful with the extended flashes like S11 to S12 also. Risk vs. benefit seems to be high. The story of the UD02 that could be flashed to UD04 but then was a brick is such an example.

Hehehe!! yup the story belongs to me.. the UD02 guy.. hopefully the 2 other chaps in MakeMKV forum that also own the UD02 drive, can upload the firmware so that i can hopefully unbrick my UD02..Hehehehe!!

oh yes, i tried to crossflash my Original XD05r with firmware loaded up with XD06U at the moment, to the XD08U but it cant be done.. it says firmware mismatch..or was it kernal mismatch..

Yes the app flashes the single tar bundle which contains the two files. I could have it work from 2 individual files if needed.

Agreed. I said the same about S11 to S12, looks like it would work but for what benefit. Im just taking a different tactic early on which is putting the user in charge of what they want on their drive. I suggest things that should work. As we work together and refine that filter to be more specific Ill update suggestions. Id like to not have a hard coded list of X to Y yes, X to Z no. But time will tell.

My app reported that? If so if you can send me logs or anything that could help the filter which is just hardware based right now. I will now also look at XD06U to XD08U as an example like I did S11 and S12 to see if I can find why it doesn't work exactly so the logic is more sound. This is the research side of this project vs just a hard coded list I said earlier that nobody will ever know "why" exactly.

Again any logs would help. Ill look into this.

Flowery - Ill have a fix in 0.10.9 that solves this regression. 0.10.5 worked but was too rigid imo in how it backed up that mean not all drives would backup correctly (Stingray had a drive that couldnt if I recall). This solved that by being more generic but I went too loose. This should be just right now....."should" Really appreciate the testing! its helping all of us

0.10.9 is out.

For clarity, select the single .tar file exactly as downloaded from my website, do not extract it first. It keeps the paired Kernel and Normal firmware together. Some packages contain only Normal firmware, which is also supported. Kernel-only packages are not accepted for flashing.

Also to comment on XD06U and XD08U, firmware wise they look very compatible and barely any different. Kernels are basically identical and normals are only slighty changed. I see no brick risk but I see little to no benefits from doing it either. Again, just my opinion.

Be more cautious and only allow riskier crossflahs if anybody wants to risk his drive.
