Cautious I agree, but I only have so many known facts to go off of. Right now thats what Im using. Hardware compatability. Im not going to use internal info from other tools as "facts". Until somebody can tell me X on Y didnt work I cant adjust the filter. Im not here to brick peoples drives but Im not going to limit people either. Thats on the person to decide what they want to do not a tool imo. If your flashing your drive you need to understand the risks, and I clearly have stated I dont know whats compatible but this is what I do know. All help as always appreciated.

Its a differing in opinions and stance. By all means fork the code, implement a stronger filter you want to use and distribute that version. Im not being harsh Im just saying I prefer to leave it on the user until we discover whats what.

Again, joys of open source you dont have to use my tool or even my version of my tool!

Its just too aggresive. You need to do a more cautious approach. This is far too aggresive for now. Await responses for known good crossflashes and then take it from there.

How do I get responses for known good cross flashes if I deny you trying? The tool is proven to work for many on known cross flashes.

I could crossflash from S12J-X 1.01 to 212M 1.05 over to 212U on 1.05 and back again to S12J-X on 1.01. All in one go.

It's totally fair to go off of the BDRFlash manual, but having the option to try more riskier crossflashes is fine. There is a text box, that tells you about the risk of bricking before flashing.

please check your pm I sent a couple of logs

please give me a recommendation.
The firmware update went through, but the drive won't return to normal mode and won't accept the backup back.
I have a BDR207 that had stopped reading discs, so I used it for experiments to avoid ruining a working drive.

Boy. You have no clue. The J-X firmware is just a marketing yada yada by Pioneer. What you did is just insane.

I am well aware of the fact, that the hardware in those drives is pretty much identical.

I was looking to see if one of those crossflashes would fail, that's all. You don't need to be this angry.

I'm not angry. I just want to warn regarding new experiments. Good enough crossflashes should do it for reading UHDs. Anything beyond that I call risky, experimental and useless.

It's perfectly fine if you're looking for a set and done kinda thing, but some people like to tinker with their stuff.

I used the BDRFlash manual as a reference, and only tried 'known working' crossflashes. Mainly because I only have 2 212EBKs which I use for burning and one UD03 crossflashed to UD04 as a backup for whenever I need another UHD capable drive. So I can't afford to lose one. That said, it's great to give the user control to crossflash to more models than previously known. But both approaches are valid.

Who knows, maybe someone will fork freemkv-flash and make a version that just crossflashes to the most common UHD-capable model.

Oh my!! i have successfully flashed my XD05r to a XD08U!!
initially i crossflashed it to a XD06U, and that firmware was in the XD05r.
but now with Mattjackson's Pioneer Flasher, its now a XD08U and the firmware version is 1.02, Dated 22/12/27.
i then proceeded to Rip a 4K UHD disc, and it ripped it without any problems!!
Yippee!!! Kudo's to you, Mattjackson!!
