Stringray I gated the crossflash for your use case behind Recovery mode until somebody tests. If it passes a few times Ill move it to flash mode for general consumption
Your backup question im looking into.

Is 1.V9 available anywhere? And is it recommended? It it downgradable to e.g. 1.V1 (encryption?)?
If you get me the firmware I can run it through my tools to add it to website and see what I think its usable on, downgradeable etc

Im trying to keep track of the 2-3 people sending me various reports so sorry if Im getting confused

Some LG drives have the mt1959 chip physically inside in them but report as mt1939. Trust the report in makemkv that says 1939 and do not flash!!!
Any evidence or reasoning on the "do not flash"? A lot say to not flash the 1939 and I dont know why, insight welcome

Ok so the GUI showing 1939 not 1959 is due to how the data from drive comes:

- chipset: MediaTek MT1939 (via identity string; tag MTEKMT1939)
- banner: MT1959 Boot JB8

im looking at what the "real" answer is

Im going to go off of Banner as its reliable not the Identity String. Identity string is just info to show not something to use for logic.

MT1959 Boot JB8
yes "real 1959" MT1959HWDN was on boards JB8, JB9
1939 (MT1959UWDN) on board JB7 (old)

Thanks. so banner is the string ill use. Ill probably still report the identity string as it is on drive and worth to show, but not it often (I found 55) differs from what the chipset is.

working on the backup problem now too.

Ok its all coming back to me about Mediatek, ive been in Pioneer world too long.

OEM MediaTeks cant be backed up. So the flasher will now prompt you if it cant backup and say continue without backup (keeps all other security checks) or abort.

So to flash a MediaTek you will have to ack that no backup was taken and then proceed. Id suggest you be sure we have the OEM image on website first.

Pioneer will also do the same, if backup fails prompt you. Pioneer gives you a secondary Recovery mode that also skips backups but also skips all security checks.

Side note - if your running FreeMKV MediaTek firmware it will backup.

0.12.3 Should have a few of the bugs knocked out. Hoping to see Mediatek actually flash (it will ask to approve no backups) and Pioneer should also flash more robustly on a few firmwares.

Hi & thank you for writing and releasing this tool!

I have a BDR-XU03 that I upgraded from 1.02 to 1.04 before I understood the "post 12/22 firmware" issue & that at the very least this particular model still isn't supported by LibreDrive on this latest firmware. At the time, I performed the update as a simple hail-Mary since the drive had become gradually more and more unreliable over the years (initially, every once in a while it couldn't spin up a disc, regardless of whether CD/DVD/BD media, and it progressed to the point where it only worked maybe 1 in 20 times, or even less...). I assumed it was physically failing and I'd probably need to pitch it and replace, but the Pioneer changelog for XU03 f/w 1.03 says "Improvement of the set up disc movement", and 1.04 was the only version they had for download, so I figured it was worth a shot...

...and the new firmware did indeed resurrect the drive & it works perfectly now!

But since 1.04 seemingly isn't supported by LibreDrive at the moment, I would like to downgrade to 1.03 if possible, which will hopefully give the best of both worlds (drive will still work + LibreDrive support). (I understand this model doesn't support UHD but I'm not looking for that, to be clear.)

I downloaded this tool + the 1.03 f/w from the freemkv web site, and proceeded to give it a shot. However, though this is a slot-load drive and not a tray drive, every time I try to perform the flash, it stops and says that the drive tray is open and needs to be closed. If I put a disc in to try to satisfy that condition, then it refuses to continue because there is a disc in the drive.

I suppose I could try Recovery instead of Flash, but not sure if that's the wisest thing?

Thanks for any advice or assistance.

"However, though this is a slot-load drive and not a tray drive" - Ok sounds like I need better detection with a slot drive. Let me look at this for you, thank you!
